NBBJ

n February 1996 the PFD selected NBBJ as the architectural firm to design the new ballpark. One of three finalists, it was the only local company to bid for the contract.

NBBJ was founded in Seattle in 1943 and began with four architects. Since then, it has grown to become the second largest architectural firm in the country and sixth largest in the world, with more than 500 employees and eight offices worldwide.

NBBJ Sports and Entertainment, a division of NBBJ, focuses exclusively on design of sports and entertainment venues. In addition to the new Seattle ballpark, the division is designing Miller Park, a retractable roof ballpark in Milwaukee, and also led the design for renovations of KeyArena, home of the Seattle SuperSonics. The company's principals and associates have been involved in the study and design of dozens of other sports and entertainment facilities.

Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire Inc. (SWMB)

SWMB is a nationally respected consulting engineering firm providing structural and civil engineering services worldwide. Founded in 1923, SWMB has provided structural engineering design for more than 95 facilities, including sports facilities such as Husky Stadium, KeyArena and the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. The firm has been recognized with more than 90 awards for engineering excellence, including the American Consulting Engineers Council 1996 Grand Conceptor Award. SWMB earned this top award given for engineering excellence for its work with Seattle's KeyArena at Seattle Center.

Weinstein Copeland Architects

Weinstein Copeland is an award-winning Seattle design firm with extensive experience in design and urban planning. Recent projects include a master plan for redevelopment of Seattle's Holly Park neighborhood, a campus design study for the University of Washington and numerous private and public school projects.

Flack + Kurtz Consulting Engineers, LLP

Flack + Kurtz is an engineering firm with six offices worldwide. It provides services in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety systems design, as well as comprehensive telecommunications, security and in-house lighting systems. Preceding its design work for the new ballpark in Seattle, Flack + Kurtz provided engineering design for the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon and America West Arena in Phoenix. The firm has been honored with more than 30 design awards from architectural and engineering professional groups.

Shannon & Wilson, Inc.

Shannon & Wilson, Inc. is an internationally recognized consulting firm specializing in the fields of geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting. The company has seven offices located throughout the United States and employs upwards of 200 engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, environmental specialists and support personnel. The firm has been involved in the design and construction of numerous local projects, including KeyArena, Columbia Tower, Washington State Convention and Trade Center and the new performing arts center for the Seattle Symphony.
